Utilization of Weather Radar Data for the Flash Flood Indicator Application in the Czech Republic

In the past few years, demands on flash flood forecasting have grown. The Flash Flood Indicator (FFI) is a system used at Czech Hydrometeorological Institute for evaluation of risk possible occurrence floods over whole Republic. FFI calculation based current soil saturation, physical-geographical characteristics every considered area, and radar-based quantitative precipitation estimates (QPEs) forecasts (QPFs). For higher reliability assessment, calculations QPEs QPFs are crucial, particularly when very high intensities rainfall reached or expected. entering computations products Weather Radar Network. QPF COTREC extrapolation method. radar-rain gauge-combining method MERGE2 to improve radar-only QPFs. It generates combined gauge QPE kriging with an external drift algorithm, and, also, adjustment coefficient applicable applied in situations corresponding rain measurements not yet available. A new scheme was developed tested performance adjusted radar FFI.
